DepicT Evaluation

1: What was the task?
Our task was to make a DepicT short. This short had to be 90 seconds or less and had to be done on a low budget. It could be any genre.
2: Discuss camerawork
High angle as the detectives look at the clues.
Although some of the shots were slightly shaky or wobbly, over all the camerawork was really good and worked well to add tension and suspense to the piece.
The individual shots were well thought out and worked really well, the only shot I didn't like was the zoom in on Jack's face, as it was very shaky and I feel could have been shot better. Other than that, the rest of the camera work went together really well, and the individual shots were very well shot.
We used a high angle here to show how they are at a loss and can't work out who has left these clues.

Start from the left and panned across to the right.

We also used a pan across as Jack realizes who actually committed the crimes. This worked well as a zoom in on Jacks face followed this.

3: Discuss Mise-en-scene
For the start of our short, the wind really helped set the scene of the dead body in the park, holding on to the news paper. It helped set the scene well as the wind blew the front page of the news paper around.
The office was possibly the best place we could have found to shoot the inside shots, it really looked like a police investigation room. The board we used to put our clues on really worked well with the other pieces of paper in the background of it all, as it makes it look like there is more evidence to the investigation.
The lighting in the office worked really well with our shots at around 50 seconds as their looked like their was a spotlight on the board in between Alex and Jack, this added to the idea that it was a police office and also takes focus between Jack and Alex, and then to the wall at the "evidence" left on there.
4: Discuss editing and continuity
I think our editing worked really well and added a lot of tension to the short. We used some fades in the piece to show passing of time.

Here is where we used a fade.
This is where it starts to fade in.
This is after it's faded in.

We also used fades to white to change between the different clues that were left by the killer. Also the fades to white are used once they have decided to let the criminal roam free, we use them to show the other people he killed, including the detective working the case.
I could not find any continuity errors in our piece.
5: Discuss sound
For sound, we used the sound from the actual clips we shot, as well as the music we edited over the top. The music was very mysterious and in places gets more intense and dramatic, adding to the drama as well as making the piece seem more corrupt.
This worked well because the police system in this is corrupt and refuse to send the killer down because it will be bad publicity for the company he works for. This shows corruption and intensity.
6: Overall, were you happy?
Overall, I thought the short went really well. I was really impressed with how well the shots turned out as well as how well it worked editing it together.
I feel we worked well as a team and with that we produced a solid bit of work. I am happy with our short except for some things.
Some of the shots were a little bit shaky and could have been shot better. I think that we missed a shot and we didn't have time to go and shoot it after we realized, so we had to work around that, although it worked well without it.
